AlterEgo's Managing Director wins Guardian Unltd Social Entrepreneur Award

1 November 2006

AlterEgo's Managing Director, Suzannah Wallace, has won a Guardian UnLtd Social Entrepreneur Award for her ideas on improving sex education in schools. The Guardian's first ever awards for Social Entrepreneurs, in conjunction with UnLtd, gave away ?500,000 for ideas that tackled social and environmental issues.

Sex education does not seem to be working here in the UK where we have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe and figures of STI's increase year on year. Instead of focusing solely on the biology, Suzannah aims to set up a course that will explore the issues of self esteem, self confidence and self respect and how the consequences of the decisions we make affect those areas. The course will use music and the media to engage and inspire students with the ultimate aim being to empower young people to make better decisions for themselves in life.

Suzannah wrote and produced Radio 1's Sex Tour in September '05 which won a prestigious Sony Radio Award.
